Phase 1: Elimination
This phase involves strictly avoiding certain foods and substances that may contribute to inflammation or harm the gut lining.
Foods to Avoid
- Grains: All grains, including wheat, rice, oats, etc.
- Legumes: Beans, lentils, soy, peanuts.
- Nightshades: Tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, eggplants.
- Dairy: All dairy products.
- Eggs: Especially the whites.
- Nuts and Seeds: Including nut-based oils.
- Alcohol: All types.
- Refined Sugars: Including artificial sweeteners.
- Oils: Processed and seed oils like canola, sunflower, corn oil.
- Food Additives: Emulsifiers, thickeners, etc.
- NSAIDs: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
Foods to Include
- Meat and Fish: Preferably grass-fed, pasture-raised, and wild-caught.
- Vegetables: Most vegetables, excluding nightshades.
- Fruits: In moderation.
- Healthy Fats: Avocado oil, coconut oil, olive oil.
- Herbs and Spices: Except those derived from nightshades.
- Bone Broth: For gut healing.
Phase 2: Reintroduction (Rebalance Stage)
This phase involves the careful reintroduction of eliminated foods to identify potential triggers.
Method
- Choose a Food: Select one food from the elimination phase.
- Reintroduce: Eat the food once or twice on the first day.
- Observe: Monitor for any symptoms or reactions for 3-7 days.
- Record: Keep a journal of reactions.
- Repeat: If no reaction occurs, choose another food to reintroduce.
Phase 3: Maintenance
This phase involves continuing with a personalized diet, avoiding identified triggers, and focusing on nutrient-dense, whole foods.
